Our Beginnings

Our Earth

The beautiful home that we all share. Our Earth is a diverse planet, filled with a wide variety of landscapes, animals, and plants. From the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the lush rainforests of the Amazon, there is no shortage of natural beauty to behold. Home to an incredible array of marine life and coral reefs, our earth is filled with unique history and traditions that are all centered around mother nature.

Global Warming

Global warming is the gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans, primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and other human activities that release large amounts of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, causing the Earth's temperature to rise.

An Existential Crisis

Global warming is having a devastating impact on our natural world. As temperatures rise, ecosystems are being altered and biodiversity is being lost. Many plants and animals are unable to adapt to the changing conditions and their populations are declining. Climate change also leads to changes in precipitation patterns, causing droughts, wildfires and floods in various regions. These changes make it difficult for species to find food and shelter, ultimately leading to their extinction. As humanity continues to alter the environment through unsustainable processes, the world slowly and steadily declines. And soon enough, the beautiful world we cherish will cease to exist.

My name is Nithin Sivakumar, and I am a junior at Flower Mound High School as well as the founder and developer of Grocals.

The inspiration for Grocals emerged from the growing trend of home gardening, fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic. As I watched my parents take an interest in cultivating a garden that yielded an abundance of produce, I noticed that we were consistently harvesting the same types of vegetables, resulting in a surplus of produce that we couldn't use. In an effort to make use of this excess, my parents began sharing their harvest with our family friends, and this eventually evolved into a system of exchanging produce between our families. This sparked the idea of a more efficient way to exchange goods, without having to rely on phone calls and long processes. And thus, Grocals was born, as an application that brings together resources to facilitate easy and convenient produce exchange with those in your community.
